This conference is designed for Heads, Senior Management and all involved in the pastoral care and wellbeing of pupils and staff. Keynote speeches from Dr Neil Hawkes, Steve Waters and Belinda Heaven will outline a variety of views and techniques to improve morale, mental health, and the joy of education. Interactive workshops from Jane Bee, Therese Hoyle and Richard Levinge will share some ideas with you all. The overall outcome is to refresh, educate and inspire schools to be happy and healthy places for children and staff.

Steve will explain the causes of Burnout and its impact on retention and recruitment. Drawing on good practice from schools that have successfully introduced staff well-being programmes, Steve will provide strategies to avoid Burnout and how to support teachers who are suffering from it.

Neil Hawkes

Neil is the founder of the International Values Education Trust (IVET) and Values-based Education (VbE). See www.valuesbasededucation.com.Neil is loved and respected throughout the world as an educational leader and thinker.  Neil’s career in the UK started with teaching, followed by three headships, and senior educational leadership in county education authorities. Neil spent seven years as Headteacher of West Kidlington School in Oxford where he gained a reputation for his outstanding leadership and transformational curriculum.  It was here that the school community worked together to devise and implement a system of Values-based Education that has been recognised internationally as the foundation of outstanding school practice.  Neil is well known as an inspirational speaker, broadcaster and writer. He is a TEDx speaker.

Steve Waters

Steve Waters is the founder and director of the Teach Well Alliance (www.teachwellalliance.com) which is committed to working in partnership with schools to support the mental health and wellbeing of teachers and non-teaching staff. He has 30 years’ experience of teaching in secondary schools, including as Head of Drama, Head of English and Assistant Principal, and 6 years as a school improvement consultant in a local authority. He has a professional qualification in counselling, is a Mental Health First Aider and is an associate trainer with the Shaw Mind Foundation. HIs specialism is Burnout and its impact on the mental health of teachers. He has four children, one of whom is a Psychology teacher, and lives in Manchester.

Jane Bee, Associate, Ease Training, and Director of Jane Bee Safeguarding

Jane has worked in Safeguarding and Child Protection for 17 years and was the manager for Safeguarding in Education for the Gloucestershire Safeguarding Children Board (GSCB). Jane is experienced in delivering training on all kinds of safeguarding subjects.  Jane has worked managing allegations of abuse against members of staff and volunteers as Gloucestershire’s Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) for 12 years. She was elected the first National LADO Network Chair in 2016.

Therese Hoyle, Associate, Ease Training, and Director of Therese Hoyle Consultancies

Thérèse Hoyle is a highly sought after educational consultant and professionally trained coach, mentor and coach trainer with 21 years’ experience.Thérèse regularly consults and advises schools and teachers on aspects of behaviour management, bullying, social, emotional and mental health needs of children and teens, staff wellbeing, organisational development, coaching and leadership.She is bestselling author of 101 Playground Games and 101 Wet Playtime Games and Activities and her, latest, co-authored book, How to be a Peaceful School has just been released. Belinda Heaven

Belinda became a member of the national training team for Mental Health First Aid England in 2010 when the new youth version was being created and rolled out. She also was a key contributor to the development of the one-day schools programme in collaboration with the Wellbeing in Secondary Education, (W.I.S.E.) at Bristol University. This research examined the impact of MHFA training on staff wellbeing, a subject Belinda cares passionately about.Belinda is a qualified nurse and has completed a specialist practitioner degree in the health and well-being of school aged children, along with a post-graduate certificate in higher education.

Richard Levinge, Director, Ease Training

Richard Levinge is the Director and founder of Ease Training. Richard is Chair of Governors at an Outstanding Special school, and the Advisory Board for an Independent Special school.Richard has a passion for practical training and leadership, based on many years training experience with roles in the Royal Navy, legal services, charities and education.
